The Optimist Club of Jefferson City conducted the annual pinewood derby races for Cub Scouts from the area this weekend. Hundreds of children participated in the races which began Friday night at the Missouri National Guard Ike Skelton Training Site in the headquarters building on the drill floor. The races resumed Saturday and lasted throughout the day. Scouts design and build the cars for the races. Over the years, designs have included a hot dog, a gecko and superheroes. The Optimist Club of Jefferson City runs this event each year, providing the racetrack and electronic tracking system.
