Mid-Missouri resident killed in Sunday crash

Gravois Mills resident Nikki R. Shaffer, 24, was killed in one-vehicle wreck early Sunday morning in Morgan County.

Her passenger, Springfield resident Travis W. Oakley, 23, was seriously injured.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Shaffer was westbound on Bass Point Road, 0.3 miles east of Missouri 5 at about 4:03 a.m. when her vehicle ran off the side of the road and hit several trees.

Shaffer was not wearing a seat belt. Oakley, who was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, was wearing one.

It is sad - two traffic fatalaties this weekend - and in both cases, the person killed not wearing a seatbelt. When will people learn? My heart goes out to the families of those killed, and a prayer that otherw will learn from this and start using seatbelts.

I just thought I would let you all know that Nikki is a male individual not a female. I went to school with him.
