Garcia does it all for Cardinals in win over Nats

VIERA, Fla. (AP) — Jamie Garcia did a little bit of everything on Friday, and he did it all well.
Garcia pitched four effective innings, drove in two runs and scored on a wild pitch, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-4 victory over the Washington Nationals.
“Today, I had a little trouble with my sinker,” Garcia said. “A couple of my pitches were up. I walked a couple of guys. But I was able to make some adjustments and kept my pitches working.”
Garcia allowed two runs, both in the first inning, and five hits. He walked two and struck out one.
He also had an RBI single and an RBI groundout in two at-bats.
“It’s always good to help out the team,” Garcia said. “I’m out there trying to get a good swing, and today I did.”
Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann was hit hard, giving up six runs and eight hits in four innings. He walked two and threw two wild pitches.
It was the first time in four outings this spring Zimmermann surrendered runs.
“I just fell behind in the counts,” Zimmermann said. “When you fall behind, you are going to be in trouble. It just seemed the leadoff hitter pretty much every inning got on base. I was pitching in trouble all day long.”
Drew Storen also had a rocky outing, giving up three runs on four hits with a walk in one inning. He’s now given up 10 runs in 61⁄3 innings this spring.
“I know results, and I know he’s not happy with the results,” Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said. “He must be throwing the ball in the sweet zone there in the middle of the plate for them to hit the ball the way they did. He’s just not getting them out.”
Daniel Descalso had a two-run homer and a single, and Mark Hamilton added a solo home run for the Cardinals.
Adam LaRoche had three singles and three RBI, and Jayson Werth added a double, walked twice, drove in a run and scored a run for Washington.
Note: Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman sat for the third consecutive game with a strained left groin. He is day to day.
