Your Opinion: Speak up on right to work

Dear Editor:

I was glad to see your article about the right to work bill up for debate in the Missouri Senate. I hope the citizens of Missouri will take some time out from their busy schedules to get informed about right to work laws and then I encourage them to contact their senators and urge them to vote yes on this bill.

Obviously, union leaders oppose the bill because it takes some of their power. Rank-and-file laborers might actually want to make their own choice about whether joining a union is right for them.

Perhaps some workers do not want to be forced to pay union dues or fees to a labor union just to get or keep a job which they are qualified to do with or without the union. Maybe there are some workers who would prefer not to support the liberal candidates championed by the union bosses.

I am pretty sure that most of the citizens of this state are interested in seeing the unemployment rate go down. It is a fact that overall job creation in right to work states is growing 2.5 times faster than in non-right to work states. Come on Missouri - speak up.
