India's 8.3 pct Feb inflation worse than expected

MUMBAI, India (AP) - India says inflation quickened to an uncomfortable 8.3 percent in February.

The rise was higher than expected and suggests the central bank may continue raising interest rates when it meets later this week.

The Monday data shows that food inflation has eased since January, but manufacturing inflation jumped 1.3 percent from January.

India struggles with persistently high inflation and uncertainty in global oil markets has worsened jitters in a country that imports three-quarters of its oil.
