Local man gets 18 years for kidnap, rape

A Jefferson City man was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison in connection with a kidnapping and rape case from June 2010.

Gregory Vowels, 21, of 1017 W. Main St., pleaded guilty to forcible rape, forcible sodomy, kidnapping and armed criminal action.

According to a police probable cause statement, the incident occurred between 2 and 6 a.m. June 12, 2010, in an upstairs apartment in the 400 block of East Capitol Avenue in Jefferson City.

The female victim, a Holts Summit woman whose name was not released, told investigators she was raped at knifepoint and also held against her will before being driven to Holts Summit where she eventually escaped from one of her captors.
