Kuwait says OPEC in informal talks on oil output

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Kuwait's oil minister says OPEC members are in informal talks about raising oil output, but have yet to reach a decision.

Sheik Ahmed al-Abdullah al-Sabah told reporters outside Kuwait's parliament Tuesday: "We are in consultation, but we have not decided which direction."

He says Kuwait hasn't changed its output.

Qatar's energy minister was quoted by that country's state news agency Monday evening as saying there is no shortage of production or supply. But the minister, Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, said "a number of countries are happy to check the market if there is any shortage."

Oil prices have retreated slightly from the $106 per barrel high reached on Monday as fighting in Libya stoked supply concerns in the global market.
