Starting your own business takes a fair bit of intestinal fortitude.

In the last 12 months, there have been at least eight storefront businesses that have opened or will open along a two-block stretch included in downtown Jefferson City.

Still, the question of why there has been a surge of entrepreneurial spirit in downtown still hangs in the air.
