Blair Oaks boys advance to district title game

ST. JAMES — The Blair Oaks Falcons rebounded from a slow started Thursday to advance to the championship game of the Class 3 District 9 tournament with a 65-46 win over Southern Boone in the semifinals.
Blair Oaks will take on Fatima, which posted a 47-37 win over South Callaway, at 7 p.m. Saturday in the district title game.
Blair Oaks (23-3, ranked fourth in Class 3) fell behind early in the first quarter, as the Eagles raced out to a 10-5 lead and held a 16-13 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Eagles, who end the season at 17-8, led 21-20 with under a minute left to play in the first half before the Falcons ripped off seven straight points, highlighted by Ben Cooper’s 3 at the buzzer, to take a 27-21 lead into intermission.
Blair Oaks had two players with double-doubles. Daniel McCarty poured in 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the top-seeded Falcons, who’s winning streak is now at 19 games.
Kellen Brondel scored 15 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Brandon Moore added 16.
