Your Opinion: Misguided Prop. B must be changed

Dear Editor:

This country has gone through issues of oppression by groups who felt they were the elite and the final judge of what is right. There are times judgments need to be made, as in everyday moral issues.

We all know it is wrong to steal, harm, cheat, or lie. We all know it is wrong to abuse animals.

Our legal system makes judgments by applying the proper law. All of our laws must strictly follow our state and federal constitutions. Whenever a new bill is passed by ballot vote, the constitutionality must be reviewed so as not to violate rights of the citizens it will affect.

Prop. B is one of these bills. For those who voted for it, primarily in the two largest cities of Missouri, this case may confuse you. Prop. B was promoted by non-profit multi-million-dollar organizations that rely on donations from generous, pet-loving people. These animal rights groups, very much like the groups, like the Ku Klux Klan, feel very strongly, but are very misguided. No one wants abused animals. No one wants the oppression of any race.

Instead of doing research and reaching a rational agreement between the opposing groups, the Prop. B proponents have taken the radical step of pushing the unconstitutional Prop. B through at all costs. Prop. B will not prevent dog abuse; it will cause human abuse. Criminalizing dog breeding, will only create underground, unethical operations, with no chance of improvement. Prop. B will turn dog breeders into criminals and will oppress an entire segment of rural Missouri.

Please contact your representatives and senators to ask them to support the changes on Prop. B. It is the right thing to do.

If you voted for Prop. B. Please take a breath. Try and think of a gentler way to make a difference. This witch hunt is hurting everyone, especially the dogs. Use tax deductible donations to fund our university. To discover the best methods of raising, boarding, and keeping dogs as pets.
