SW Missouri soldier killed in Afghanistan

MONETT, Mo. (AP) - The Defense Department says a 22-year-old soldier from southwest Missouri has been killed in Afghanistan.

Army Spc. Christopher G. Stark, of Monett, died Monday when his unit was attacked in Wardak province. Twenty-five-year-old Staff Sgt. Chauncey R. Mays, of Cookville, Texas, was also killed.

KOAM-TV reports that Stark was a 2007 graduate of Monett High School. He was assigned to the 63rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion, 20th Support Command, at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

Stark's family says he was an explosives ordnance disposal tech, also known as a bomb specialist. The family says he was en route to a site where an improvised explosive device had been spotted when his vehicle was hit with another device.
