JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed a former state department director to the Mental Health Commission.

Stephen Roling, of Kansas City, was named Thursday to the commission that helps oversee the state Department of Mental Health and selects its director. Roling was the director of the Department of Social Services from 2003 to 2004.

Nixon also appointed Wallis Warren of Beaufort and former House member Dennis Wood of Kimberling City to the state Clean Water Commission. That commission is responsible water regulation.

Warren is a Democrat and an insurance agent and operates a farm. Wood is a Republican and the presiding commissioner of Stone County. He was elected to four terms in the Missouri House.

The appointments would require Senate confirmation when lawmakers return to the Capitol.
