Luo leads Missouri Amateur tourney

AUGUSTA - If the area's best amateur golfers wanted a challenge they are getting it this week at the Missouri Amateur.

No players are under after the second round of stroke play which wrapped up Wednesday at the Boone Valley Golf Course in Augusta.

The top 64 finishers from the two-day stroke play event advances a match-play tournament which begins today.

Andrew Luo finished the stroke play portion in first place with a two-round total of 144. His round of even-par 71 was the day's best score.

Eldon's Matt Miller was just behind Luo with a 145. He carded a 2-over par 72 Wednesday. He will take on Nickk Wilson of Columbia.

Jefferson City's Gerald Siemons also advanced to today's match play round with a 157 and takes on Brad Nurski of St. Joseph.

Other area golfers to advance included Alex Knoll of Westphalia who finished tied for 27th with an 8-over par 156. Knoll takes on Washington's Ryan Eckelkamp.

Former Helias golfer Michael Huber did not advance after shooting two round of 83.

The tournament continues the rest of the week and concludes Sunday with the championship match.
