Death toll from Joplin tornado rises by 1 to 154

JOPLIN, Missouri (AP) - The death toll in Joplin has risen to 154 people with the death of a man injured in last month's tornado.

Joplin city spokeswoman Lynn Onstot identified the victim as James Cookerly. She says she doesn't have details about where or when he died.

Onstot says her information came from the city's police department.

Police did not immediately return a phone message left Saturday by The Associated Press.

The death total from the May 22 tornado had stood at 153 since Monday, when city officials reported two more fatalities. It is the nation's deadliest single tornado in more than six decades.
