Capital area Red Cross preparing for coming floods

The Red Cross rarely, if ever, gets notice of a disaster beforehand. So the warning from the Corps of Engineers that there will be flooding along the Missouri River, affecting much of the area served by the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, allows the organization time to plan ahead, rather than just respond to a disaster.

Beth Bauer, CEO of the Capital Area Chapter, said flooding is imminent, and now is the time to prepare. And that is just what the organization has been doing, for weeks already.

"We are working right now in Cooper County and the Boonville area," Bauer said. "Looks like some of the water will be in Boonville on Sunday."
