Change of venue sought in Plunkett murder case

FULTON, Mo. — An attorney for Sandra Plunkett, 37, Holts Summit, who is accused of killing her husband on New Year’s Day, has asked the Callaway County Circuit Court for a change of venue.

Justin Carver, a court-appointed public defender representing Plunkett, filed the motion. He stated no reason for the proposed change.

Judge Gary Oxenhandler, presiding judge of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court serving Boone and Callaway counties, has ordered a hearing on the change of venue motion at 9 a.m. Monday.

This is a sad case for many of us to follow. As a paramedic I ran many calls over the years with Paul Plunkett. I also partnered and ran calls with a sweet, kind, caring, Sandra Jannick (Plunkett). It's hard for all of us to believe that Sandra could commit such an act.

But the subject is the request for a change of venue. I do not think that is necessary. I think a clear headed, untainted jury can be found in Callaway county. Paul's cases, as a JCPD officer, were primarily heard in the 19th Circuit which is Cole County. I doubt Paul had many cases or trials that were heard by the 13th Circuit which covers Boone and Callaway Counties. So that leads me to believe that a Callaway County court could try this case and Paul's role as a peace officer would not get in the way.

We need to keep the case where it is so that interested parties, and there are many, can easily make a trip to the courthouse in Fulton.
