Former Helias golfer Michael Huber ran out of magic Thursday afternoon.

Mitch Rutledge used a dominating first round and cruised to a 7 and 5 victory against Huber in a 36-hole final at the Junior Match Play Championship Thursday at Eagle Knoll Golf Club.

Rutledge - the defending Class 2 state champion from Whitfield High School - led by as many as five holes on the first 18 before Huber closed the gap to three after the first round.

However Rutledge took control early in the second round and led by seven heading into the back nine. Rutledge finished the match by winning hole 13.

Huber finished tied for second overall at the Class 3 state championship in May.

Huber qualified for the match-play portion of the event by finishing in the top-32 in a round of stroke play. He won four straight round of match play before Thursday's final.
