BERLIN (AP) - Germany's national disease control center says the number of new illnesses reported in the E. coli outbreak is down to a handful.
The Robert Koch Center said nine more people were reported sick Wednesday in Germany since the day before, bringing the total number since the start of May up to 3,244, including 784 with a serious complication that can lead to kidney failure.
A total of 37 people have died in what has been the deadliest E. coli outbreak ever.
The World Health Organization says more than 100 people have been affected in 13 other European countries and in the U.S. and Canada.
Authorities have tracked the likely source of the outbreak to vegetable sprouts from a northern German farm.
