INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) - One person has died in an explosion at an outbuilding in Independence.
Independence Police Capt. John Cato told The Kansas City Star the victim died in an explosion Monday evening in a residential area. Police did not release the victim's identity.
Police said the outbuilding was so badly damaged that authorities could not say exactly what kind of building it was. Secondary explosions were still going off when authorities reached the scene.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
