Missouri, Mo. Southern to play game for Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri basketball team will take on Missouri Southern in an exhibition basketball game to benefit victims of the Joplin tornado.

The NCAA announced Friday that it had approved the Oct. 30 exhibition game at Missouri's Southern's Leggett & Platte Athletic Center.

Proceeds from the "One State, One Spirit Classic" will be donated to support rebuilding efforts in Joplin, where 151 people were killed in a May 22 tornado.

Gov. Jay Nixon said in a news release that having Missouri's new coach, Frank Haith, take his team to Joplin for the exhibition game will ensure that efforts on behalf of Joplin storm victims are ongoing.

It will be the first time the Missouri Tigers have played in Joplin.

The game time and ticket prices have not been announced.
