Congressional Award attracts young adults, families to Capitol
Monday, June 6, 2011
Freshman Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler told nearly two dozen Missouri teens at the Capitol Saturday their work to win a “Congressional Award” medal “really sets you apart from a lot of people your age.”
Mike Esser, president of Missouri’s Congressional Award Council, noted the award is designed “for youth who dedicate themselves to four areas of giving back to their community — volunteer public service, physical fitness, personal development and exploration/expedition.”
After a 15-minute talk Saturday, Hartzler helped present medals to the students — mostly from the St. Louis area — who came to Jefferson City for the ceremonies.
