Rep. Hartzler says Corps has no choice

U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler, R-Harrisonville, thinks the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has little choice but to release water from the upstream Missouri River reservoirs, even though the releases increase the flooding potential this summer, all along the river.

The Garrison Dam near Bismarck, N.D., already is releasing water into the Missouri River below it - and the Gavin's Point Dam will be releasing about 150,000 cubic feet of water per second by mid-June.

That's more than twice the volume Gavin's Point ever has released before.
