Missouri audit rates treasurer's performance as 'good'

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri auditor has rated the overall performance of the state treasurer's office as "good."

Auditor Tom Schweich (shwyk) released a review of Treasure Clint Zweifel's (ZWY'-ful's) office Thursday. Schweich is a Republican, and Zweifel is a Democrat.

The audit did question the payment of nearly $16,000 over two months to a former deputy state treasurer who helped with the transition after resigning.

Zweifel spokesman Jon Galloway says the deputy spent five or six years working for the office and helped ensure a smooth transition. Galloway says the office followed every employee policy and procedure and that the official complete every task he was given.

Galloway says the overall audit gave the treasurer's office a clean bill of health.
