Florida downs Missouri

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Missouri softball team entered the College World Series confident its past struggles on softball’s biggest stage were behind them.

Missouri starting pitcher Chelsea Thomas delivers a pitch during Thursday night’s game against Florida at the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

But Thursday night’s opener against Florida proved to be more of the same.

Florida tagged Missouri ace Chelsea Thomas for five early runs as the Gators knocked off the Tigers 6-2.

The fifth-seeded Tigers are in their third straight World Series, but have yet to win a game as their record fell to 0-5.

Missouri is in danger of another one-and-done as it takes on Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN-TV) in an elimination game.
