Melanie Thompson plays Elly in Angie Fadness’ “Wonderful Mess” at the Stained Glass Theatre of Mid-Missouri in Jefferson City.
But it was a family effort working in this family play. While Thompson plays the lead in this second showing of the Mid-Missouri playwright’s work, her husband, Shawn, plays the doctor and their daughters Emily and Madison helped read lines during rehearsals.
As having her family involved in this play was a gift to Thompson, so her character realizes that the family she has, though not perfect, is a gift, too.
Most of the comedy/dramas is told from Elly’s hospital bed, often in flashbacks as she and her best friend sort out life.
“Wonderful Mess” will be performed on the Stained Glass Theatre of Mid-Missouri stage June 9-25. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. Saturday at 830 E. High St. Tickets are $7.
