Local theater takes on "Marvin's Room'

The next production for the Scene One Theatre is "Marvin's Room," written by Scott McPherson, and winner of the 1991-92 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play and the 1991-92 Drama Desk Award for Best Play.

According to Scene One Director Mark Wegman, the play is an account of one woman's commitment to loving others first, and her belief that giving such love has made her life rich, even as she faces her own death.

The play is based upon McPherson's experiences with AIDS in his family, and later when his partner who died of HIV/AIDS. McPherson himself died in 1992 of AIDS at age 33.

Performance dates are Friday and Saturday, and June 9-11. Each show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Scene One's Black Box Theatre at 121 E. High St., below Hallmark in downtown Jefferson City. Doors open at 7 p. m. Tickets are $10. Special half-price tickets are available for the June 9 show. To reserve seats, call (573) 681-9199.
