Ex- investigator testifies in NW Mo. murder case

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A retired private investigator who helped the Livingston County Sheriff's Office after a 1990 Chillicothe murder says he remains convinced that authorities identified the person responsible for the crime.

Terry Deister was hired by Lyndel Robertson to investigate the fatal shooting of Cathy Robertson while the couple slept. Lyndel Robertson was seriously wounded but survived.

Deister later teamed up with the county's chief deputy in an investigation that led to charges against Mark Woodworth, a teenage neighbor whose father was Lyndel Robertson's farming partner.

Woodworth was convicted of murder in 1995, briefly released after a successful appeal and again convicted in 1999. He is serving a life sentence. Deister tesitified Wednesday at a Columbia appeals hearing on whether Woodworth deserves a new trial.
