Locomotive steams into capital; hundreds turn out for a look

It was about a half-hour late due to all the stops along the way, but that didn’t deter hundreds of people from coming to the Millbottom area of Jefferson City on Tuesday afternoon to see a piece of history.

Union Pacific’s Little Rock Express tour rolled into town as the railroad’s No. 844 steam locomotive travels to and from North Little Rock, Ark., visiting communities that cast the most votes during Union Pacific’s Great Adventure — You Route the Steam contest earlier this year.

It's interesting and historic and I am pleased that it stops here for everyone to get a chance to see. But is it good planning to have it blocking West Main Street during the time when all state workers are getting off work and may need to get through there?

The train arrived yesterday evening and was open for viewing all day. They didn't just have it available during the evening after-work time.
