Your Opinion: Special session for job undone

Dear Editor:

How come Gov. Nixon has to call a special session when the state has no money? Why can't our elected officials do the job they get paid to do during the regular session?

Our state workers have not had a pay raise in years, the health insurance benefits have decreased, they have lost several good-paying jobs to downsizing and now we have to pay the very people in charge of these choices more money to come back to a special session that should not be needed if they would have done the job they are paid to do in the first place.

I don't know how everyone else feels about our government but I think it is time to remove and replace both state and federal office holders. If we keep bringing in new people eventually I think they will get the point that we the people will not stand for their individual opinions but to vote for what the majority of the people want. Also I am still waiting for the same health insurance benefits I was promised during the last presidential election.

If you want to open up the job market give the people health insurance. If people had affordable health insurance the retirement rate would triple.

The selfishness going on in Washington is ridiculous. We each have to live within or own budgets, so why not the federal government?
