Dear Editor:
I have a few questions.
In 2006, Barack Obama made this statement as part of a speech, "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here.'"
Instead Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
Why is it that now that he is the country's leader it is not a failure of leadership to raise the debt limit? Why is this whole statement no longer true? Why is raising the debt limit OK now that Obama is president? How has economics changed to makes raising the debt ceiling OK now that he is president? Why, now that Obama is president, does it not weaken us domestically and internationally to raise the debt limit? Why is the buck not stopping at Obama's desk? Why is it OK now that Obama is president to shift the burden of bad choices onto the backs of our children and grandchildren?
As he said in his statement of 2006, America has a failure of leadership and its name is Barack Obama and America certainly does deserve better than him.
