SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Students will move into renovated and refreshed housing at Missouri State University this fall.
The university in Springfield is spending nearly $13 million to repair the exteriors of residence halls, install two sprinkler systems and replace doors, carpet and paint. That's as much money as the school spent for renovation and repairs on the halls in the last six summers combined.
The university is using $7.5 million it received in federal funds and another $5 million from its reserves to pay for the work.
Gary Stewart, director of residence life and services, says the projects are needed to help recruit and retain students.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that the university also is planning to build a new residence hall as early as the fall of 2013.
