St. Louis area group loses trash challenge

But second suit still is pending, with possible effect on Jefferson City

A group of St. Louis County voters convinced two Missouri Supreme Court judges they should be allowed to take their claims to trial.

But they needed at least four judges to win, so Mike Weber, Paul Marquis, Cathy Armbruster and their supporters on Tuesday lost their effort to get a trial on their complaints about St. Louis County's 2006 trash collection changes.

Opponents of Jefferson City's 2009 changes were watching both the Weber case and a separate St. Louis County challenge, filed by James O. Grace, that is scheduled for state Supreme Court oral arguments on Sept. 14.
