UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Tina Charles scored eight of her 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Connecticut Sun to an 85-79 win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night.
The Sun (9-5) won their third straight game and moved into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. Connecticut leads second-place Indiana by percentage points.
Renee Montgomery added 13 points and 10 assists for Connecticut, the lone remaining unbeaten team at home in the WNBA (7-0). Kara Lawson had 12 points, and Danielle McCray added 10.
Plenette Pierson led New York (9-7) with 18 points. Cappie Pondexter added 16, Nicole Powell had 14, Carson 11 and Kia Vaughn 10.
Essence Carson's basket with 8:48 remaining brought New York, which trailed by as many as 18 points in the third quarter, within six at 66-60. But the Sun held New York to three points in the next 5:07 to build a 78-63 lead.
Sky 78, Storm 69
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - All-Stars Sylvia Fowles and Epiphanny Prince combined for 47 points to lead Chicago over Seattle.
Fowles, the WNBA scoring leader, had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Prince added 23 points for Chicago (8-8), which won its second in three games. Both players were announced as All-Star reserves at halftime.
Sue Bird scored 26 points for the Storm (7-7), who have lost three straight.
Chicago led 69-68 with 3:15 to play following Bird's fourth 3-pointer, but Prince scored four points during a 9-1 run to help the Sky take control.
Ashley Robinson had 14 points, and Swin Cash added 10 for Seattle.
Dream 84, Fever 74
ATLANTA (AP) - Lindsey Harding scored 19 points to push Atlanta past Indiana.
The defending Eastern Conference champion Dream have won two straight, but are fifth in the conference, four games behind the Fever.
Tamika Catchings had 22 points, and Erin Phillips added 21 for Indiana, which has lost three straight for the first time this season.
Erika de Souza had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Atlanta. All-Star Angel McCoughtry, slowed by foul trouble, netted 15 points in only 19 minutes.
Atlanta also was without forward Sancho Lyttle (sore back) and guard Coco Miller (sprained right ankle) and had only nine players in uniform for the second straight game.
Despite the thin bench, Atlanta led 44-36 at halftime.
Jessica Davenport added 12 points and seven rebounds for Indiana.
