Killer dies while serving life term

POTOSI, Mo. (AP) - Missouri prison officials say a St. Louis man serving a life sentence in a 1990 killing in St. Louis has died while in state custody.

Potosi Correctional Center inmate Keith Macon, 52, died shortly before 8 p.m. Monday at a Potosi hospital.

A cause of death was not immediately revealed, and an autopsy was pending.

A St. Louis jury convicted Macon in 1991 in the August 1990 beating death of 72-year-old Forrest Lee, who was his neighbor in a six-family apartment building.

Macon claimed he punched Lee in self-defense.
