There are tough ways to lose and there are tough ways to lose.

Friday’s loss to Sedalia by the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Aflac Juniors in the first game of a twinbill qualifies as just that.

The Juniors nearly overcame an 8-0 deficit, only to have the tying run thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning to end a wild 8-7 loss to Sedalia at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex.

“At the last second I tried to hold him up, but at the same time they had to make a play and they threw the ball in and it didn’t bounce,” Post 5 coach Keith Bax said. “Chances are that ball could have hit that lip and gone wild and we are in the ballgame.”

Post 5 (13-3) salvaged the day by coming back to rout Sedalia 13-0 in five innings in the second game of the doubleheader.
