Wednesday's MLS Capsules

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Jeff Cunningham scored in the 90th minute, tying the MLS record of 133 career goals, and the Columbus Crew beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Cunningham, who came on as a second-half substitute, headed his landmark goal past Vancouver goalkeeper Joe Cannon after Columbus was awarded a late corner. He tied former D.C. United star Jaime Moreno for the league record.

Columbus (7-5-6) ended a two-game losing streak.

The Whitecaps dropped to 2-9-8 with their second straight loss and to 1-4-2 under new coach Tom Soehn, who replaced the fired Teitur Thordarson in late May.

Red Bulls 5, Toronto FC 0

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) - Thierry Henry and Luke Rodgers scored in a five-minute span of the first half, and New York Red moved into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Jan Gunnar Solli set up the goals in the 33rd and 38th minutes, and Joel Lindpere scored and assisted on two goals by Juan Agudelo in the second half to turn it into a rout. The five goals were a season high for New York.

Greg Sutton made five saves as New York moved a point ahead of Philadelphia - which has played two fewer games - with only its second win since May 7 (2-2-8).

Toronto, which snapped a nine-game winless streak last week, is 1-5-5 in its last 11 games.

Rapids 1, Sporting Kansas City 1, tie

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Graham Zusi scored off a rebound in the second half to help Sporting Kansas City salvage the tie and extend its unbeaten streak to nine games.

Kansas City (5-6-6) has not lost in its last four home games.

Conor Casey scored in the 32nd minute for Colorado (5-5-9), which is winless in its last three games and has only one victory in its last 10.

In the 62nd minute, Rapids keeper Matt Pickens could not control C.J. Sapong's shot, and Zusi easily put the rebound into the open net for the equalizer.

Chivas USA 2, Earthquakes 0

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Ben Zemanski and Nick LaBrocca each scored to help Chivas USA end its four-game winless streak.

Chivas USA struck first when Zemanski fired a shot from 30 yards in the 64th minute that proved too much for Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch. LaBrocca scored when he found himself alone on net and easily beat Busch in the 84th for his fifth goal of the season.

The loss wasn't the only negative for the Earthquakes, who lost right back Steven Beitashour to injury and forward Steven Lenhart for the next match due to yellow card accumulation.
