Sporting KC wins standout

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Sporting Kansas City has acquired the rights to forward Soony Saad, an 18-year-old standout at the University of Michigan.

The Major League Soccer team announced Tuesday its acquisition of the 2009-10 National Gatorade Player of the Year.

Saad led the NCAA in scoring with a schoolrecord 19 goals at Michigan in the 2010-11 season. He was one of two collegiate players to join the U.S. Under-20 camp in December.

He signed with the MLS last week and was entered into Tuesday's weighted lottery, which the league uses to distribute players after the annual draft.
