Nixon signs Barnes' adoption language into law

Adoptees soon may be able to get more information about their biological families, thanks to one of eight new laws Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signed Monday.

Freshman Rep. Jay Barnes, R-Jefferson City, sponsored the adoption language included in Senate Bill 351 that Nixon approved Tuesday afternoon.

"This bill will impact all who were adopted in Missouri, regardless of where they live now," Barnes said in a statement. "This bill will help Missouri adoptees find the answer to a fundamental question of human existence: "Who am I?'"
