Man charged in shooting of Memphis officer

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A Mississippi man who was charged Tuesday with murder in the shootings of a Memphis police officer and another man told investigators he planned to use his military training to kill more officers during the incident.

A court affidavit shows that Alexander Blaise Haydel, 22, was charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Officer Timothy Warren and Arthur Warren, who are not believed to be related.

The shooting took place Sunday in the Doubletree Hotel, located in the heart of Memphis’ downtown and across the street from a minor league baseball stadium where a game was being played. Police cars and heavily armed officers swarmed the hotel and surrounding area after shots were reported.
