Your Opinion: Plaza owner reacts to adult store criticism

Dear Editor:

Mrs. Kruse, I did not appreciate the personal attack on me and my family. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but a personal attack in print was uncalled for. Zeal Wright was a fine photographer and businessman for 50 years in Jefferson City and was always proud of his son.

The decision to lease to Cirilla's was first and foremost a business decision. Had I not leased to Cirilla's they would have located elsewhere in the city in one of the numerous vacant commercial units throughout the city.

Before leasing to Cirilla's I went to their store in Columbia and didn't know what to expect. What I found was a pleasant surprise. The store was neat, clean and brightly lit. In the front were racks and racks of women's lingerie (similar to Victoria's Secret at the mall) followed by risqué greeting cards, "gag" gifts perfect for a bachelor/bachelorette party and a selection of "adult" novelties.

It was then I decided that Cirilla's would be good fit for my plaza and in fact complementary to the other businesses located there. I don't think a casual adult shopper (a sign on the door warns no one under 18 allowed) will be offended when they walk through the door at Cirilla's

If you are looking for pornography just go next door to Hastings or several of your neighborhood convenience stores.

Ms. Kruse, thank you for bringing Cirilla's to the attention of our fellow citizens and as with running any business these days, I do heartily appreciate all the free publicity you have generated for my plaza.

If you want to go out in the 100-degree heat and drive traffic to my plaza, knock yourself out.
