Deal reached between bank regulators, Missouri auditor

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri auditor and the state's Division of Finance have an agreement about access to records.

Auditor Tom Schweich (shwyk) had subpoenaed records from the Finance Division, saying he needs access to the documents to determine if bank regulators are doing their jobs properly. The Division of Finance responded that it was barred by law from complying and that workers could be dismissed or prosecuted for releasing documents.

Schweich and the Division of Finance have now reached an agreement allowing some records to be examined amid conditions to protect the documents' confidentiality. A trial judge concluded in a court order that regulators could enter into the agreement and that employees would not face criminal penalties for complying with it.
