Tony LaRussa might not have caught the Cardinal Caravan over the weekend, but local fans still had an opportunity to meet the skipper.

The Jefferson City Rotary Club hosted LaRussa, who has been manager of the St. Louis Cardinals since 1996, at a luncheon Monday at the Capitol Plaza Hotel.

While LaRussa gave the crowd ample time for questions during the hour-long luncheon, there was one topic he preempted — the downturn of his club’s fortunes during the last part of the 2010 season. Simply put, LaRussa said there was no good explanation for the way his team played, especially against teams that had losing records.
