Lawmakers seeking better use of resources

"Just out of curiosity, let me see a show of hands of people who use road maps," state Sen. Jim Lembke, R-Lemay, said Thursday afternoon during a "Rebooting Government" committee meeting. "Who uses road maps anymore?"

Lembke then wondered how much the state Transportation Department spends to print the maps - which are distributed free to Missourians and to travelers visiting the state.

The discussion - in the committee studying the Office of Administration and general government operations - was one small part of the state Senate's ongoing effort to find ways to trim government costs.
