Lady Jays handle California, head to championship game

The Jefferson City Lady Jays advanced to the championship game of the California Tournament on Thursday with 51-36 win over California.

The Lady Jays (8-5) held the Lady Pintos, ranked 10th in the latest Class 3 poll, to single digits in the first three quarters. Jefferson City held a 12-8 lead after one quarter and took a 22-13 advantage into the break.

Monique Townson dropped in a game-high 11 points for the Lady Jays, who broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Pintos 20-9 to take a 42-22 lead into the fourth.

Sadie Theroff and Shelby Mustain each scored nine points for Jefferson City, while Lauren Reeves and Kristin Burnett scored eight points apiece.

TyleRe Goans led the Lady Pintos (8-2) with 10.

Jefferson City takes on Moberly in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday.
