Realizing it could change for various reasons, the Cole County Commission is aiming at an April 15 date to get the new county jail open for operation.
During a status report Thursday, Mike Smith with Septagon, the project manager for the jail, said he believed it was possible they could have all the inside work done around that time, but there would still be some outside work to be completed.
The commissioners said it was important to have a date because they are coming quickly on the time when things such as files and records must be moved from the current sheriff's department and jail into the new facility at East High and Adams streets.
