Crowell still hopes to revamp retirement system oversight

Missouri lawmakers didn't agree last year, but state Sen. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, isn't letting go of his idea that a new oversight board could improve investments for the Transportation Department/Highway Patrol retirement system, known as MPERS.

"The whole idea behind the investment board," Crowell told senators Wednesday morning, during a 25-minute meeting of the Rebooting Government Committee on Retirement, "is that the state has invested a tremendous amount of money into the investment staff at MOSERS (the Missouri State Employees Retirement System).

"And it is the best in the country - it wins every award that's out there and adds a billion dollars to that fund over the last 10 years."
