For the second straight day, high school sporting events around Mid-Missouri were called off due to the winter weather.

First-round action is now scheduled to begin today in boys and girls basketball tournaments in California, Westphalia and Mokane as well as a girls-only tournament in Union.

After missing two days, the most common fix for many of the tournaments involved adding another gym to the mix.

On the girls side, the Union Tournament will now be played in the school's main gym and old gym, with action getting under way tonight.

The same is true for the California and South Callaway boys and girls tournaments, with all four starting today and being held in gyms at the high schools and middle schools.

The Fatima girls tournament will play all four of its first round games starting today, while the school's boys round-robin event has been pushed back to a Thursday start and will now extend through Saturday.

For the complete new schedules for each of these events, please see C2 in the sports section of our newspaper or e-Edition for Wed., Jan. 12, 2011.

On the non-tournament front, the Jefferson City Jays, Helias Crusaders and Blair Oaks Falcons all had home boys basketball games postponed.

The Jays were slated to host Camdenton, the Crusaders were to face Hickman and the Falcons were to meet Hallsville.

The Blair Oaks-Hallsville contest has been rescheduled for Jan. 24. No reschedule information was available for the Jays or the Crusaders.

In addition, Helias was slated to host Marshall in a wrestling dual. No reschedule date was available for that event.

Blair Oaks' wrestling dual at Owensville, scheduled for Tuesday night, will now take place Jan. 18.
