Tuesday's NHL Capsules

NEW YORK (AP) - Jaroslav Spacek scored the tying goal in the second period and Benoit Pouliot put Montreal ahead for good in the third as the Canadiens beat New York 2-1 on Tuesday night, snapping the Rangers' three-game winning streak.

Spacek connected for the first time in 29 games with 1:11 left in the middle period after the Canadiens controlled play in the Rangers' end for about two consecutive minutes. Pouliot scored his second in three games with a tough-angle shot 6:03 into the final period.

New York came out flying early, buoyed by consecutive one-goal wins at Dallas and St. Louis, but couldn't sustain the momentum after Brandon Dubinsky gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead 4:15 in. All-Star Henrik Lundqvist was solid in making 36 saves, but likely would want another chance at Pouliot's winning drive.

Alex Auld, who played in three games with the Rangers last season, stopped 25 shots and earned his third win of the season despite getting into only six games with Montreal.

Stars 3, Oilers 2

DALLAS (AP) - James Neal scored the tiebreaking goal moments before getting credit for it and the Dallas Stars beat Edmonton for their first win in six home games since Dec. 21.

Neal took a shot from the right circle that went over the shoulder of goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and ricocheted out of the net so quickly that play continued until the whistle blew for an apparent penalty. Officials then looked at a video replay and awarded the goal.

Neal's 16th of the season, with 11:09 left, came soon after the Oilers scored twice in less than 2 minutes to tie it. Kari Lehtonen stopped the other 39 shots by Edmonton, which is 1-7-2 in its last 10 games.

Jamie Benn scored his third goal in two games for Dallas and captain Brenden Morrow also scored. Jamie Langenbrunner, reacquired last week from New Jersey, played his first home game for the Stars in nearly nine years.
