Your Opinion: Work together to fight crime

Dear Editor:

Crime in Jefferson City has stepped up a notch!

On Dec. 26 around 8 p.m. our guest from Illinois was dining at Chili's on Missouri Boulevard. He walked out to discover his passenger side window had been broken out and items including his GPS had been taken from his 2005 Impala. This car was parked in a well lit area facing Missouri Boulevard.

The incident was reported to police and the window has been replaced.

We made numerous apologies to our guest about "things like this don't happen in Jefferson City" - except it did!

Last fall, items disappeared from unlocked cars parked in driveways and teens were blamed. Now, it has happened to locked cars in busy, well lit, public areas. What do we do?

Please keep your eyes out for unusual activity and report it to the police.

Also make sure you have written down the serial numbers of your GPS and other items to quickly provide to the police.

We need to work together to keep crime out of Jefferson City for all residents and visitors.
