Mediacom pitches new offerings
Thursday, January 6, 2011
Mediacom customers who’ve lost access to KOMU-TV 8 and the CW have other viewing options, including a free offer normally valued at $120.
Talks have stalled between Mediacom and KOMU to reach a new retransmission consent agreement that would allow Mediacom to continue carrying KOMU’s signal. Mediacom dropped the signal for KOMU and the CW late Monday night.

In regards to cable and satellite tv. I would suggest anyone with high speed internet to drop the companys and invest in alternative methods. For $90.00 I purchased a box, subscribed to 2 movie/tv programs costing me about $17 per month no contract. My satellite without movie channels was running me about $85 per month due to the HD tv's and 4 recievers. I can now watch tv what I want, when I want and my programs I used to watch on local channels I get the next day with limited ads. Well worth the difference and it is awesome to take control of that part of my life.

An excellent point Katy. I've seriously been thinking about doing the same thing.

what kind of "Box" did you purchase can I ask? I'm interested..well once my 2 year contract is up with Mediacom. Which I think it's ridicoulous you have to have a contract for a local utility that you don't have a choice in changing unless you go to satellite.

Your contract with Mediacom should be null and void when they stopped providing the local channels. Did they reduce your monthly rate for not providing NBC anymore?

Western Digital offers two boxes you can use.
Western Digital - WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player which will give you access to video programs, such as NetFlix from the internet.
Western Digital - WD TV Live Hub Media Center with 1TB Hard Drive. Similiar to the one above except it has a built in hard drive to copy DVDs to and play from.

My experience with CenturyLink has been better than with Mediacom, speedwise. I've been hooked up with CL for about six months now and don't remember my connection failing, also according to speedtest.net I have had an unwavering 9.5m connection (I pay for the 10m connection) the entire time. With Mediacom, same connection, I would usually test in the 6.5m range. Sometimes as low as 4m. So I would say to at least give them a shot if you can get these kinds of speeds at your address.

Given that, at least as of last night, the "other viewing choices" appear to be a Starz movie channel and Turner Classic Movies, I doubt they'll be free for long. Those were both channels you got only with subscription and I suspect they'll switch them out to something else before long. And fat lot of good that does for people who already HAD Starz and TCM. I want NBC and the CW, those are the ones I watched!
